As the crop is researched, grown, handled, processed and distributed to customers around the world, the industry contributes $43.7 billion to Canada’s economy and supports 206,000 Canadian jobs.

Pork, an economic powerhouse
Manitoba Pork welcomes you to Winnipeg and Manitoba for CFWF 2025! The hog sector is a key part of our province’s commitment to feeding the world and meeting global demand for high-quality, sustainably produced protein.
Communities across the province benefit from the $2.3 billion that the hog sector contributes to the provincial GDP annually to fund key priorities like hospitals, highways, and schools. Statistics compiled by Economic Development Winnipeg show that Manitoba’s hog sector contributes more than two times as much as the provincial aerospace sector to the Manitoba economy, and trails only the transportation, advanced manufacturing, and energy sectors in terms of economic impact. About 22,000 Manitobans rely on the hog sector for their livelihood – enough jobs to fill both the home of the Winnipeg Jets, Canada Life Centre, and the home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes, Blue Cross Park, simultaneously.
Manitoba Pork is the producer funded organization that represents 624 hog farms across the province, funded through levy dollars. Manitoba Pork’s mission is to foster the sustainability and prosperity of the hog sector for the good of pork producers and all Manitobans. Manitoba Pork’s vision is to become a centre of excellence for global pork production.
