Bursary Awarded to Joey Dearborn
MFWBA is pleased to announce that Joey Dearborn has been chosen to receive a $3000 bursary to attend the IFAJ 2025 Congress.
In October, Joey will be traveling to Nairobi, Kenya for an immersive experience alongside global agricultural journalists, media professionals, and industry leaders. This will be Joey’s first time in Africa and he is looking forward to the experience.
“The part about going to Kenya that interests me the most is learning firsthand how agriculture plays a role in the developing world, and most importantly, how communications from different groups, be they reporters, input suppliers, or trade organizations, reach the farm level where there may not be the comforts of modern technology,” says Joey. “There may be lessons to be learned for us here in Canada, where there are still small groups of farmers and producers who do not have access to the latest methods of communications or have a distrust of those sharing those messages.”
Joey will be speaking about his experience at the IFAJ 2025 Congress at a future MFWBA event.
About Joey
Joey Dearborn is the communications manager for Manitoba Pork, where he focuses on work that encompasses both print and digital mediums. That includes Manitoba Pork Chop Talk, a biweekly podcast that he produces and co-hosts with Rhea Teranishi, focused on issues that matter both on-farm and to the agriculture sector. Prior to his time at Manitoba Pork, he was the communications coordinator for Keystone Agricultural Producers and served as press secretary to Manitoba’s Minister of Agriculture. In his spare time, you can find him on the golf course or loudly and passionately cheering on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
